Meeting the Moment

While the climate crisis brings major challenges, it also offers a significant opportunity to transform our economy and society to better meet the needs of workers and communities. The current political landscape provides new opportunities for climate action, with major investments and commitments at the federal, state, and local levels that include strong labor and equity standards.58

A key piece of legislation in this effort is the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022. The IRA is the largest investment in climate action in U.S. history, dedicating hundreds of billions of dollars to energy security and climate change efforts.59 This funding aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by about 40% by 2030, expand clean energy industries, and create high-quality jobs.
